First Drop

So I know that my ideas for Data Story 1 will change as I hear other students ideas and gain more inspiration, but right now I have a few ideas from different topic areas.

1. In light of Jorge Gomez Sanchez becoming the first Temple player to be selected in the MLS draft, when he was drafted to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Tuesday, I was inspired to write a data story about the trends in locations and/or schools of MLS draft picks. I feel this is the type of information frequently address in the NFL draft, but I would be curious to find and analyze the data of Major League Soccer.

2. I'd be curious to collect and analyze data on concentration of humane societies in the United States or even just Pennsylvania and see whether the number of humane societies correlates to population or share any observable commonalities between their spread and location.

3. Lastly, I feel that there is great amounts of and access to crime data, so while I'm not sure exactly what I'd want to do with it, I was thinking of comparing variety of crimes in major cities vs. rural towns and seeing if/how the types of crime differ depending on population density and location.

In retrospect I guess all of these are related to location in some way, but that might be because that is something I find easy to visualize. Again, I'm sure I'll be inspired by others' ideas and this list is merely a starting point.
