Data Story III Proposal

Upon finding out that a journalist friend of mine follows over 50 dogs on Instagram, I started looking into data about pets and dogs. So far I have collected data from the U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook (2012) and the American Pet Products Association's 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey. Using this I can compare number of pets in the U.S. and expenditures for these two time periods. I also wish to include information about pet social media profiles, for which I have been researching dog profiles on Instagram, but I have yet find analyzable data on that part.

Overall I think there is interest in this topic and hope to capitalize on that by making a visually appealing and interesting presentation of pet data. I find the expenditures element to be significant and I want to visually demonstrate the amount of money pet owners spend annually on their pets.
